I CAN'T WAIT TO DOCUMENT YOUR LOVE.
Create a Stunning Floral Table Runner. Looking to spruce up your home without breaking the bank? A DIY floral table runner is the perfect way to add a little fun and color to your space. It’s easy enough to make that even novice crafters can do it, and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg either. Let’s get started!
Gather Your Supplies to Create a Stunning Floral Table Runner
Before you dive into this project, make sure you have all of the necessary supplies. You will need some fabric for the runner itself (you can use any type of fabric that you like; just keep in mind that more delicate fabrics will require extra care), scissors, pins, thread, and some artificial flowers or greenery. If you don’t want to use real flowers, craft stores usually carry a variety of faux plants that look great on runners. You will also need an iron and ironing board if you plan to press your fabric before starting the project.
Materials Needed
– 2 yards of fabric (of your choice)
– One 12-inch by 10-inch piece of felt or batting
– A needle and thread
– Scissors
– Embroidery floss (in the colors of your choice)
– Embroidery needle
– Assorted flowers and foliage (faux or real)
Prepare Your Fabric to Create a Stunning Floral Table Runner
If you are using fabric with wrinkles, be sure to press it before cutting it into strips. Then cut it into four equal-sized pieces so they fit together seamlessly when sewn together. Take one piece of your fabric and fold one end over so that both sides meet in the middle. Pin them together where they meet and sew them together with a straight stitch. Do this for each piece until all four pieces are connected at one end. Once all four pieces are attached, press them flat with an iron—this will help keep everything even as you move forward with the project.
Step 1: Begin by cutting two pieces of fabric that are the length and width desired for your runner. The pieces should be slightly larger than the felt/batting piece. Place one piece right side down on a flat surface, then center the felt/batting piece on top. Place the other piece, right side up, on top of the batting/felt. Now stitch around all four sides using a basic running stitch with a ½ inch seam allowance. This will create an envelope for the batting/felt.
Step 2: Next, begin to embroider along the edges using whichever pattern and colors you desire. Feel free to experiment with different stitches, such as French knots or chain stitches for added texture and dimension. When finished, knot off all threads securely at the backside of your runner.
Step 3: Now it’s time to start adding flowers! If you are using faux flowers, simply glue them onto the runner in whatever pattern looks best; if you are using real flowers, use small stitches attach them to your runner instead. Again feel free to experiment with different patterns and placements until you achieve the desired look.
Add Decorations & Finishing Touches
Now comes the fun part: adding decorations! Place your artificial plants wherever you want them on the table runner (make sure not to cover up too much of the fabric). Then use pins or hot glue to attach each plant where desired and voila—your runner is complete! To give it an extra special touch, consider adding some ribbon or lace along the edges if desired.
And there you have it—a beautiful floral table runner made by none other than yourself! This elegant addition is sure to bring a smile to your face every time you see it in your home or use it at gatherings with friends and family. Plus, because this is such an easy project anyone can do it—so why not give it a try today? After all, what could be better than creating something beautiful out of nothing? Happy crafting!
